What are the Oilers up to this offseason you ask?
Well with the harsh realization that some of my top-prospects will be forced into NHL action next season, the Oilers are looking to bolster their NHL roster and surround these young stars with quality players. The addition of Martin Havlat is the first of some expect moves.
With massive amounts of cap space, the Oilers will be very aggressive in their pursuit of talented FA's, both RFA and UFA. So be for warned.
Also with the joy of all this cap-space the Oilers will be open to taking on some salary from other teams provided they meet one of two criteria: 1) They are talented enough to be reliable NHLers or 2) They come with lube, preferably 2012 draft picks.
As for the highly decorated 2012 1st overall draft pick, it is extremely unlikely to me moved. At this point I would say my required return at this given point, and it can and could change is - 3 2011 picks, atleast two 1st round picks (1 must be top-15) and a later pick that is negotiable based on other factors.
Don't like the price, don't make the call.
